CLUB TEAM COACHING PROFILE

The Franciscan Soccer Club believes that most children who play soccer competitively do so because they want to aspire to become better players. FSC believes that in order to help a young player reach their fullest potential they need qualified coaching. A Dutch Youth Professional coach once said, "There are many good soccer athletes in the U.S., but very few good soccer players". This is due in part because of the lack of qualified coaching at the youth level in the United States.

FSC views a qualified coach as someone who has the following attributes:
  • Has played the game at a high level (Professional, Top Amateur or equivalent)
  • Has a minimum level coaching certification at the N.S.C.A.A. "Junior Level V1" or the U.S.S.F "D" coaching certifications.
  • Knows what to teach and how to teach it.
The FSC philosophy is to develop intellectually savvy players who have a passion to get better. A young player needs to see how the game is played properly in order to have something to aspire to, and this is why they need a coach who has played the game at a high level. A coach who does not have a high level playing background cannot teach the higher level nuances of the game because the playing concepts are not in their mental "library". A coach must also be able to convey and demonstrate these concepts so that young players can see how it is done. A good coach knows know what to teach AND how to teach it.
